Dad Reggie son, what happened?
Reggie I don’t wanna talk about it.
Dad But Reggie – it was in the local paper. That’s how me and your mum found out. Bloody Mrs Jackson mentioned it in garage…
Reggie (Angrily)I said I don’t want to talk about it… The police have still got my phone. Can you get it back from them? There’s a few numbers of friends that I need off of it. Also, you’ll need to phone Vodafone and close the contract. And I need a 28 Day parcel.
Dad What’s that?
Reggie You can send me some of my clothes but you have to do it now otherwise after 28 days of me being in here you can’t do it anymore.
Dad How am I going to get them? I don’t have a key to your flat.
Reggie Fuck… OK – you’ll need to do this anyway – can you contact the housing association – Marathon Housing – explain what’s happened? I’m gonna have to give the flat up. Tell them you need to get in to clear my stuff out. Just put together a few T-shirts, jeans, underwear, my dressing gown and my slippers.
Make sure there’s nothing yellow.
Dad I’ll get it sorted. Can me and your mum come and see you?
Reggie It’s hard right now I think – depends on Covid. They do a video thing here – Purple Visits – it’s like Facetime. I’ll try and find out how it works and let you know.
Dad OK. Anything else?
Reggie I still owe money on my credit card.
Dad How much?
Reggie Don’t know exactly – about three grand…
Dad Reggie – I can’t pay that!
Reggie I’m not asking you – fuck – I don’t know what I’m going to do about it.
Dad Reggie – all of this – the debt, the driving – what’s been going on?
Reggie I’ve told you I don’t want to talk about it.
Dad But if you don’t talk about it, it’s never gonna get solved is it?(Silence)
Reggie I’m going to go now.
